When an election
is called, each registered proxy elector will be sent a poll card
advising that a proxy vote has been applied for. These cards
will usually be sent out approximately 2 weeks before the
election.

What is voting by
proxy?
Voting by proxy is
when you nominate someone else to vote on your behalf.
Who can apply for a proxy
vote?
Only those with a
specific reason can apply to vote by proxy.
To vote by proxy
for just one election, you must have a reason (for example you will
be on holiday or away due to work) and you must apply by 5:00pm six
working days before the election. However, if you become ill
after this time you can still apply to vote by proxy for medical
reasons up until 5:00pm on polling day.

What is the deadline for
applying for a proxy vote?
You can apply for
a new proxy up until 6 working days prior to an election - you must
return your completed application by no later than 5:00pm six days
before polling day.
You can amend the
person you nominated as your proxy at any time before 6 working
days prior to polling day.
If you are
suddenly incapacitated or taken ill, you can apply to vote by
emergency proxy up until 5:00pm on election day
