If you, or someone who lives with you, need a room, or an extra
bathroom or kitchen, or extra space in your property to meet
special needs, arising from a disability, you may be entitled to a
reduced Council Tax bill. The bill may be reduced to that of a
property in the band immediately below the band shown on the
valuation list. These reductions ensure that disabled people do not
pay more tax on account of space needed because of a disability. If
your property has already been placed in a lower band, this will be
indicated on the bill.
For further guidance and an application form, please contact the
Revenues Section at Braintree District Council. (01376) 557755.
If your home has any special fixtures, which have been added for
a disabled resident which reduce the home's value and you do not
think they have been taken into account in the valuation band, to
which you have been assigned, you should contact the Valuation
Officer. See section on Appeals.
With effect from 1st April 2000, if your home is in band A you
will receive 1/9th of a band D charge as a disablement
relief.
