Councillor Lynette Flint has chosen Brainwave and The Salvation
Army as her charities for the forthcoming year.
The Salvation Army Christmas Day Meals
Service
The Salvation Army has been at work in the Braintree District
for well over a century. For the last 30 years the Christmas
Day Meals Service has been part of its community service.
It is available on Christmas Day for those that are lonely,
vulnerable or elderly, together with people who simply want to be
part of a larger gathering. In addition hot meals are
delivered by volunteers to those who are housebound or who prefer
to celebrate Christmas with a meal in the privacy of their own
homes.
Guests from Braintree, Halstead and Witham are picked up by
volunteer drivers and gather in the Salvation Army Hall in Rayne
Road. Other volunteers deliver dinners and presents to people
at home in Braintree, Bocking and the surrounding villages. The
success of the day relies heavily on the volunteers who generously
give their time to support the cause.
The circumstances of the guests vary enormously but the meal is
free to all and is open to anyone who wishes, for whatever reason,
to attend. The intention is that no one should go without or
be lonely on Christmas Day.
