Our surveys show that affordable housing is wanted and needed in local areas and so providing affordable housing in the District is a top priority for us. Where people rent from Registered Social Landlords we want to ensure they are able to have choice about where they live.

Improved public transport features as a high priority for many people in our surveys. To improve transport for local people we work with bus companies to explore ways of helping them to improve how they run their services.

Our Community Transport helps the elderly, disabled and vulnerable residents get out and about in the district. Our mini bus fleet is bigger than ever and extra funding has been achieved to meet future demands.

Highlights from 2010/11

We provided 131 affordable homes in Braintree, Halstead and Witham, with more affordable homes coming this year.

We have increased investment into our community transport service to enable more older people and those in rural areas to get out and about in the district.
