Braintree District Community Safety Joint Action Groups (JAG's)

*

Witham, Braintree & Halstead

The Joint Action Groups (JAG's) are Police meetings that involve multiple agencies.  There are three JAG's, one for Witham, Braintree and Halstead.

The purpose of the groups is to work in partnership to address Community Safety issues and assist with the delivery of the Braintree District Community Safety Strategic Assessment Priorities and Annual Partnership Plan.

The aims are to:-

Identify ‘hot spots’ (crime/nuisance/anti social behaviour) within the three Police Sections.

Determine solutions and instigate agreed plans of action.

Act as a multi-agency problem solving forum to address issues that matter most to the community; this will include priorities identified and raised through the Neighbourhood Action Panels (also known in some areas as Neighbourhood Meetings)

The first part of the meeting allows for all colleagues to share non-personalised information on locality based issues. Members attending this part of the meeting may disclose the individual names of alleged perpetrators to Essex Police personnel.

The second part of the meeting allows for representatives from Essex Police, Registered Social Landlords ((RSL) Housing Providers), Community Safety and other relevant partner agencies to share personalised information and discuss sensitive methods of addressing/curtailing the behaviour of specific individuals.

(Neighbourhood Action Panels (NAPs) also known in some areas as Neighbourhood Meetings feed their top three issues into the appropriate area JAG).

The Groups currently meet monthly:-

Halstead – First Tuesday of every month (10.30am – 11.30am) Townsford Mill, Halstead

Witham – First Wednesday of every month (10.30am – 11.30am) Town Hall, Newlands Street, Witham

Braintree – First Thursday of every month (10.15am – 11.15am)  *Braintree Police Station, Braintree

How do I get an item on the Agenda?

The agendas are uniform to cover the essential elements of the meetings. Under 'Hotspots, Areas of Interest' any issues that are brought to the attention of an Officers notice (BDC, ECC, Police or RSL etc) one week prior to the relevant meeting; are forwarded to administrative staff and appropriate information disseminated to attendees prior to the meeting. This approach allows other agencies to seek information from their own agency and attend with the appropriate information; thus maximising the effectiveness of the meetings.

What feedback will I receive?

At the very least you should expect to receive feedback on the particular issue that you have raised.

Each area JAG administrator maintains a record of each JAG meeting producing minutes for the relevant session along with allocated tasks and outcomes.
