Volunteering Opportunities

*

This page tells you about opportunities to volunteer with Council led projects and who to contact if you are interested.  Volunteers are currently involved in a range of different roles here with varying levels of commitment.  We greatly value their contribution and know that they, too, get a lot back in return.

"I became involved with Heart & Sole Walks when I took early retirement, thinking it would provide good exercise, a chance to do something for the community and add a structure to my day.  I now find it very rewarding as a volunteer helping people who may have medical problems and need exercise or those who just need to join a group for company, who enjoy walking but don't want to do it alone." Velma Mayhew, Heart & Sole Volunteer.

"Since I started with community transport I have found it a great way to meet other people and they all praise the service we provide.  Its very satisfying to me."  John Pegram.

Why Volunteer?

There are many reasons why our volunteers get involved.  Making new friends, learning new skills and putting something back into their community are just some of them.  Volunteering is increasingly recognised as valid experience by employers so it can help you to get back into paid work or make you stand out from other applicants at your next job interview.

What Can I Expect?

You will find more information about what is currently available below.  If you are taking up a voluntary role with Braintree District Council you will be complementing the skills of paid staff and may work alongside them, but you will not be used to replace paid staff.

The Council works to a Code of Practice on Volunteering and this will ensure that you are treated fairly and that your rights and responsibilities as a volunteer, and those of the Council, are made clear to you.

What Do I Do Next?
