CATCH A RISING STAR
Essex Apprentice information.pdf
As part of its pledge to create over 1,000 new apprenticeships over the next two years, Essex County Council is offering wage subsidies to businesses in the Braintree district if they take on an apprentice.
If you are passionate about what you do, have skills and expertise to pass on and are able to provide a supportive learning environment, an Essex Apprentice will help your business to shine.
So if your business is based in the Braintree district, you can benefit:

∙ You will get a significant subsidy towards your apprentice’s weekly wage

∙ You will receive help and support during the recruitment process

∙ Essex County Council will act as a link between your business and the apprentice’s training provider

∙ An apprentice ensures a continuity of skill, placing your business on a path to a successful future

∙ Apprenticeships often bring loyalty, new ideas and innovation to businesses enabling expansion beyond your dreams

To qualify, your business should be located within the district of Braintree, have less than 50 staff, and should not have had an apprentice in the last two years, or, should be looking to expand the number of apprentices currently employed. There are a limited number of places we can support with this wage subsidy, so would encourage you to call us to find out how you can get involved.

For the opportunity to pass on your star quality: email apprenticeships@essex.gov.uk

The Economic Development Strategy (click to open - PDF) has been published. Facing up to the challenges of the current and future economic situation, the strategy outlines a new approach on behalf of businesses and residents in the Braintree District.

Steered and developed by several local business-led working groups meeting through the winter, the 56 page document can be seen on the Council’s web site or at local libraries.

It picks up where previous consultation left off; developing the preferred vision of the district: ‘where ideas take shape’: and rejecting the do nothing option.

Five priorities emerge: including the improvement of local skills attainment in a competitive local economy which is an international leader, rather than a follower. The district must become a leader in environmental technology and entrepreneurial spirit.

Cabinet member for enterprise, Cllr Nigel Harley comments: "We recognise that growth in jobs must be balanced with protecting the environment and we need to reconsider how wealth is created, while maintaining a good quality of life for everyone. The district needs more sustainable employment and we need to regain the idea that the more you learn, the more you earn – something which seems to have been lost for many young people."
