<> Does your business or industrial site face
significant challenges which you think should be addressed by the
District Council?
<> Are you fed up with red tape, mounting
bureaucracy and a feeling that your Council just doesn’t
care?
<> Do you want to have the opportunity to
influence important decisions which will impact on the future
viability of your business?
If you’ve answered yes to just one of these questions, then this
is your chance to put your views and comments on a regular basis to
District Councillors who have a special interest in the success and
sustainability of the District’s business community.
The Business Council was established some 10 years ago as a
means of raising key issues and challenges faced by the district’s
growing business community. The Business Council also
provides an effective forum for the District Council to consult on
emerging local and national policies which impact on the economic
well being of the district.
The Business Council meets up to 6 times a year from 6.00 pm to
8.00 pm at the Corner House, Market Place, Braintree. The District
Council is represented by the Cabinet Member for Enterprise and
Infrastructure, the Council’s Corporate Director with
responsibility for planning and development matters, and the Head
of Economic Development. The private sector is represented by
Chairman from the district’s four Chambers of Commerce, the
Federation of Small Businesses, BAA Stansted, major retail outlets
and others who have a business interest in the district.
Other elected Members and Council Officers also attend from time to
time. Meetings are chaired by a representative from the
private business sector.
The group also arranges Business Forums that are held in
locations in Braintree, Witham and Halstead. The forums,
which are also held in the evenings, feature topical business
issues with presentations from experts in the chosen topic, a
period for networking and a questions and answers session.
