Q.   Type of Emergencies Planned for

A. Braintree District has a generic flexible plan but does hold specific plans for:

- Floods
- Pipelines
- Heatwave
- Severe Weather
- Bradwell off site plan
- Avian flu
- Pandemic flu                                                 


Q.   What is the Councils role in a Major Emergency

A.   Plan and prepare for emergencies and train staff internally and with external partners to be flexible and respond to any incident quickly and efficiently.  It should also be remembered that a “normal” service must be maintained wherever possible.   


Q.   What should you do in an Emergency

A. Call 999 to contact the Emergency Services. 


Q.   Emergency Pack – what can I do to help myself?

A. Make sure that you have an “emergency pack” in your home and in your car.

- Torch and spare batteries
- Radio (wind up/spare batteries)
- Blanket
- Food & drink - especially in your car  (make sure the water is fresh) 
- 1st aid kit
