Council Tax scams
Householders need to be aware they may be targeted by fraudsters
claiming to be council employees.
The scammers target residents advising them they have had a
reduction in their Council Tax banding resulting in an overpayment.
The caller then asks for personal information, bank account
details or a credit card number stating they will send a
refund.
Another scam involves fraudsters texting your mobile
telephone advising you have a Council Tax refund due and to
phone a number. If you telephone you could be ringing a
premium rate number.
Never divulge any information and if in doubt over the
authenticity of the caller you should contact the Revenues
Section on 01376 557722 or email
