RECENT BURGLARIES - PROTECT YOUR HOME!  Burglars will prefer to gain access out of sight at the rear of a property, as has been seen with the current burglaries.  Is there a clear unobstructed access to the rear of your property?  Where possible fence and gate access to rear gardens (Max height without planning permission 1.8m or 1m next to a highway used by vehicles) top this with some trellis of about 380mm and/or spiky toppings (spiky toppings requires a warning notice usually supplied with product)  Don't forget to secure gates with either a suitable key operated mortice lock or closed shackled padlock.  How about some defensive planting, something like Berberus, Pyracantha, climbing rose or Hawthorn around existing perimeter fencing of any height or anything else you wish to protect i.e. domestic fuel tank (some garden centres sell more established plants)  Plus remember to ensure your windows and doors are secured correctly and keys removed out of sight (FIRE SAFETY keys must be within easy access in case of emergency)  Appropriately placed "dusk till dawn" lighting with economy bulbs will help prevent night time crime.  Consider an alarm, if installed always use a NSI or SSAIB approved company and get three quotes to compare.  If you would like further advice regarding your home security you can contact your local Crime Reduction Advisor on 0300 333 444 or visit the Essex Police website www.essex.police.uk

Don't leave your mobile phone on the table, keep it safe. Thieves are using a distraction method to steal mobile phones from people at pub's, bar's, café's and eating establishments. A book, map or other is placed on your mobile phone on the table while you are spoken to by the thief, before leaving they pick up the book or other together with your mobile phone underneath and leave with both." and link to http://www.essex.police.uk/be_safe/your_property/mobile_phones.aspx
