What is Community Payback?
Community Payback is a scheme run by Essex Probation.
Offenders make reparation to their local community for offences
committed. They undertake unpaid work which will be of
benefit to people in Essex. The skills they can learn through
some Community Payback projects also help towards their
rehabilitation and employability.
How does it work?
The Courts can order offenders to do Unpaid Work hours as part
of their sentence, as both a punishment and a means to reduce the
likelihood of reoffending. This can include work in groups,
such as clearing derelict land, removing graffiti and renovating
community buildings, as well as individual work for smaller
organisations and charities. The sentence is given to
low-level offenders considered suitable for working in the
community.
The Community Payback scheme needs suggestions from
community groups as to what projects would be useful
Essex Probation and Braintree District Council are working in
partnership to find ways to promote this service in our
District. Communities can make their requests by contacting
the Community Development Team.
